I don't know that I would agree that leaders are lonely... I believe true leaders surround themselves with people. People who can hold them accountable and lift them up in areas they are weak. A leader who is alone will never be able to see all of the character flaws that others might see.

It's true that leaders have to step out on their own in some senses... I would question whether or not this actually makes great leader though.
